HISTORY

Agerola and the Amalfi Coast have been inhabited since prehistoric times. The Romans built beautiful villas there as evidenced by the Villa of Minori and Positano. Already in the Roman age, Agerola was known for the nutritional and curative properties of the milk produced by the farms in its mountains, and later it was renowned for its commercial relations with the Maritime Republic of Amalfi and with the Angevin Court for the supply of pork products. In 1600 the area was famous for the production of silk and roses. Linked to the Kingdom of Naples, it continued to be a privileged destination in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries for nobles, famous musicians such as Francesco Cilea, and famous writers and poets such as Roberto Bracco, Emilio Scaglione, and Salvatore di Giacomo who compose the poem "Luna d'Agerola" here. Today the culture and the fascination of art continue with the Festival on the Path of the Gods which during the summer hosts concerts and theatrical performances with international guests
